Building on a Strong Foundation!
Sally Newton
Founder of Tumblebees Gymnastics/Ultimate Kids1951 – 2014
Ultimate Kids opened in 1986 as Tumblebees Gymnastics, founded by youth athletic visionary, Sally Newton. We were Greensboro’s first kids fitness and sports training facility. Since that time, tens of thousands of Triad children have participated in our programs. While enjoying fun and fitness, these children have enhanced their physical and mental development. And, they have learned important life lessons about working toward goals, winning and losing, and respecting themselves, their fellow athletes and coaches.

Building on the philosophy Sally set forth, our program has grown and expanded to include a recreational gymnastics gym, an educational preschool, a dance studio, a rock climbing gym, a ninja gym, and a team training gym. All of these facilities are conveniently located on our campus on Downwind Road in Greensboro, just minutes off of the new I-840 loop.
To better reflect the growing array of amazing programs we offer, we changed our name to Ultimate Kids – Home of Tumblebees. Today, there are over 1,500 children enrolled in sports programming here at Ultimate Kids.

Hall of Fame
We are proud to announce that our founder, Sally Newton, has been inducted into the Guilford County Sports Hall of Fame as a 2024 Legend Inductee. Her induction reads as follows:
Thanks to Sally Newton, thousands of children, many of whom have become champions, discovered the joy of sports in Guilford County. A graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania, she coached gymnastics, field hockey, and softball at three high schools in Pennsylvania before moving to Greensboro in 1984. Newton founded Tumblebees Gymnastics in 1986 and became a “champion of youth sports” in Greensboro. Since Tumblebees’ founding, over 40,000 area children have participated in its programs. Putting the “FUN” in the fundamentals of gymnastics, tumbling, rock wall climbing and other sports, Tumblebees’ quickly becoming the most lauded and versatile program on the East Coast. Newton played a pivotal role in bringing regional and national gymnastics events and championships to Greensboro during her career. Despite her passing in 2014, the Tumblebees’ philosophy lives on “making a difference in the lives of students, families, and community through education, promoting health, fitness, self-esteem and sports development by a caring, professional staff.”
